2019 Kia Telluride vs BMW X6

2019 Kia Telluride in Warrington PA

Kia has gone bigger than ever before with the new Telluride three-row SUV. This vehicle is the largest crossover in Kia’s model lineup, just above the Kia Sorento. The Sorento is Kia's other 3-row passenger vehicle. According to its feature specs, the Telluride is longer and wider than the BMW X6. So, because of its size, the Telluride can transport up to eight people, where the BMW X6 only seats five. And, beyond its size, the Telluride is far more unique than any other Kia model, with impressive head- and taillight designs and a tough, truck-like shape.

This bold new Kia is nothing like the old favorites like Chevrolet's Tahoe or GMC's Yukon. Unlike the old-school beasts, Telluride has a Transverse-mounted advanced all-wheel-drive powertrain. Surprisingly, the 3.5-liter V6 hybrid electric offers an incredible 400 combined horsepower and 30 mpg highway. Although labeled 2019, Kia states the model will be released later in the year for 2020. Because the Telluride is classed as a midsize luxury SUV, which is slightly smaller than American branded full-size luxury SUVs. That's why we’ve paired it to the BMW X6.

2019 Kia Telluride advantages over the BMW X6

The Telluride is a daring innovation for Kia, but that’s because Kia recognizes the luxury SUV market is increasing. Telluride is a hybrid sport-utility vehicle and more than a concept. It challenges buyers to rethink how an SUV can fulfill their daily needs. Kia claims the Telluride’s boldness is all-inclusive, advancing its design, luxury, comfort, and technology beyond other manufacturers.

Our competitor, the BMW X6 is classed a "Sports Activity Coupe," and not a luxury SUV. Nonetheless, we paired the two because the BMW dimensions match closely with the Telluride. Also, as with the previous generation of BMW such as the X5, the X6 keeps to a four-door midsize crossover featuring a downward-sloping roofline. This body line resembles the classic fastback coupes, far from the traditional squared-off backs you see on full-sized SUVs. The sad result, the BMW X6 offers reduced rear headroom and cargo volume compared to the 2019 Telluride.

But, for those who are style-conscious, the small inconveniences of the reduced area go unnoticed. Adding to style, BMW offers the X6 with a variety of powerful engines and handling options that exceed any driver expectations. However, as a utility vehicle, the X6 falls short and doesn’t compare to many SUVs. That’s because it was designed as a raised performance "coupe" with rear passenger seating.

We have great things to say about both the 2019 Kia Telluride and the BMW X6, but the best comparison is the one you make.
